Recognizing the all important value of sharing in love and reaching out to the less privileged in our society, Care for Youth Future Initiative, embarked on a Christmas outreach programme to celebrate the yuletide with gift and food items to the less privileged in three indigenous communities here in the FCT. The event was put together for the sole reason of reaching out to the needs of the most vulnerable in our society particularly single teen/ vulnerable mothers, orphans and vulnerable children during the festivities and putting smiles on their faces.

This year’s event was sponsored by the T.Y. Danjuma Foundation through her Discretionary Grant program and supported by the kind hearted and goodwill donations of some of our other corporate and individual donors. The activities that characterized this event was the distribution of food and gift items such as; Bags of Rice, cartons of indomie, beverages, cartons of tin tomato paste, groundnut oil, toiletries, cartons of pasta, diapers for single teen nursing mothers, as well sanitary pads.

Prior to this period, Care for Youth Future Initiative had adopted these sites for her outreach programmes due to the high prevalence of premature and unwanted pregnancies leading to single/ teen motherhood and the consequent high level of school dropout amongst the girls in these communities. We have in the course of our previous outreach embarked upon HIV/AIDS awareness and sensitization programmes, value reorientation advocacy and capacity building programmes as our modest contribution to better the lots of these single teen/ vulnerable mothers.
The modalities for the implementation of this outreach which has been largely tagged successful and timely was hinged on our knowledge of the peculiar needs and challenges of these single teen/ vulnerable mothers, orphans and vulnerable children through our previous outreaches. Our past experience and relationships in these areas of needs, informed our choice for the selection of the beneficiaries of these food and gift item. And as it pleases us to inform you, Care for Youth Future Initiative, is an independent, non-governmental, non-religious, non-sectional, non-profiting, non-political and non-tribal initiative established in Nigeria and registered under Part C of the Companies and Allied Matters Act 1990, for the purpose of mentoring/empowering youths, single teenage mothers, orphans and vulnerable children as well as the less privileged in our society.
It is however important to also point out that the event for this year witnessed a large and massive turnout of single teen/ vulnerable mothers, orphans and vulnerable children as well as windows whose means of livelihood and survival is threatened. The massive turn out of these beneficiaries in Gbagarape and Mabushi communities larger than expected was initially a challenge in view of our budget, items for distribution and the number of communities it was intended to cover, however, this situation afforded us the opportunity to discover new areas of needs with initiatives for a sustainable outreach and enduring impact. The incidence of widows who turned out in their numbers was also a cause for worry as their expectations had to be met.
The beneficiaries of these food items could not hide their joy as they were full of thanks and appreciation to the facilitators and sponsors of these events. The high point of the event was the briefing by the representative of TY Danjuma Foundation in attendance and the resounding thanks you applaud that ended his speech in the communities visited.
Our key achievement and satisfaction was in the fact that we were able to put smiles on the faces of the less privileged and downtrodden amongst us. According to the data collected during the distribution of these items, over two hundred  single teen/ vulnerable mothers and widows were reached, as well as over one hundred and eighty orphans and vulnerable children. Also identified were new areas of help for a sustainable impact in our future outreaches.
